“Snow and childhood—both have melted away. The years fall away from me like leaves from a tree, leaving me bereft.”

What a beautiful analogy for growing up and the confrontation of our own mortality. My childhood memories of winter and the holiday season were always replete with laughter and celebration and magic. I don’t remember when it changed but one day I woke up and Christmas was just another day on the calendar. What I wouldn’t give for just another day in the snow….

Ah, well, it’s always fun to reminisce.

aw thank you Amelia for leaving a comment and for sharing your own memories of winter! <3 I agree, the holidays don't seem to have the same sort of magic anymore—but maybe one day!

I think the older I get, the more I’ve come to realize that freedom and self-sufficiency in adulthood is a double-edged sword. Perhaps it means that we have to create our own magic for the holidays if we miss those moments from our childhood. Like your snowy elevator to the cosmos, isn’t there something new and wondrous in the openness of that possibility?

P.S. I adore your new profile picture! Greece, I presume?

I fully support the idea of creating one’s own magic! and yes it’s from Greece!
